Apple Cider Vinegar for your Health

November 23rd, 2009  |  Published in Sexual Health

Since the time of Hippocrates, apple cider vinegar has been touted as a virtual cure all for a large number of different maladies including poor digestion, dandruff, ear infections and skin rashes. While no actual scientific data has been produced to back up these claims, there is evidence that take several spoons of apple cider vinegar a day can lead to some significant health benefits.

Diabetes:

Some research indicates that apple cider vinegar can help with insulin sensitivity and management of Type 2 diabetes. Taking it before your meal can help lower the overall Glycemic index when you are eating carbohydrates making this common household item, a valuable assistant in regulating diabetes.

Digestion:

A spoonful of apple cider vinegar before eating may help you digest your food with fewer gassy problems.  The acetic acid in the vinegar helps keep gastric acid from leaving your stomach too soon.

Weight loss:

Drinking apple cider vinegar before your meal may also help you feel fuller and decrease your desire for a “little more”, making taking it along with exercise and a sensible diet, a good way to lose weight.

Folk Remedies involving apple cider vinegar…

Arthritis, gout and other over acidic conditions:

While apple cider vinegar is acidic in nature, it leaves behind a alkaline residue after you digest it making it an ideal treatment for conditions of overt acidity.

Yeast infections:

Many women have found that douching with a dilution of apple cider vinegar is helpful in treating thrush and other vaginal yeast infections. Taking it internally may also help reduce symptoms of candida.

Swelling:

Applying this vinegar to a cloth and holding it on a injury for an hour can help reduce swelling and bruising.

Dandruff:

Since the acids in the vinegar can kill off the fungus that is responsible for chemical imbalances in the scalp, many folks considered it a useful remedy for dandruff.

The best way to benefit from apple cider vinegar….

Always make sure that you are using the raw unpasteurized apple cider vinegar that you can find in many health food stores. Although it is “raw”, this vinegar is safe due to the high level of bacteria killing acid that it contains. This living vinegar is loaded with valuable enzymes and minerals that the pasteurized “dead “varieties of the vinegar found in supermarkets contain a only a mere fraction of.

Be sure to shake the bottle prior to using apple cider vinegar. This helps disperse the threads, which are the living parts of the vinegar. If taking before meals, a good formula to follow is two teaspoons in one half of a glass of water (with a teaspoon of honey if you prefer). It you are not eating anything after taking apple cider vinegar, be sure to brush since the high acidic content can do damage to the toot enamel.  It might also be a good idea to test your PH levels with a PH testing kit (available at most pharmacies). If you get an acidic result, then supplementing with apple cider vinegar will be especially beneficial to your system.

Making The Case For Choosing A Natural Herbal Treatment

November 23rd, 2009  |  Published in Sexual Health

Natural herbal treatment for promoting health and preventing disease is certainly something most Americans should at least consider. There is a good chance that by adopting a more natural approach we as a group would reduce skyrocketing health care costs and the overall health of most Americans would improve.

A bold claim. Let’s look at some facts to drive home this wild accusation. As Americans we tend to spend more than any other country on healthcare but as a nation we are very unhealthy. Over 50 percent of all working Americans have a serious chronic disease such as heart disease, artery disease, arthritis, high blood pressure, cancer, gall bladder disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis or debilitating brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Ironically, it only gets worse in the ranks of the unemployed, with about 70 percent suffering from chronic disease. Oddly, enough state and federal workers who have excellent health care benefit plans are the most unhealthy in the working category.

What is even more disturbing about the number is that these numbers don’t include those over 65. I will give you just one stat before we move on. Approximately 45 percent of adults 65 years of age or older suffer from high blood pressure.

Ironic isn’t it that we have some of the best doctors and the most advanced treatment methods known to man but our overall health is terrible. This can only mean that we have become reliant on reactive medicine rather than prevention, including lifestyle changes and natural herbal treatment methods.

At this point it is difficult to know the right path to take, and never has there been a better example of this than my friend Terry who is in his early 50’s and takes ten medications a day.

He recently asked me about a natural herbal treatment for his high cholesterol problem. I told him that there are some excellent affordable options but he would have to check with his doctor to find out whether or not the natural herbal ingredients would be safe to take with his other nine medications. He consulted his doctor who sternly advised against it. So at this point he realizes that the medications he is taking are making him feel less than stellar but simply doesn’t know what to do about it, and honestly I don’t either.

Many Americans are in similar situations to Terry where their health is poor and their dependency on prescription medications has reached a point where they have few good natural herbal treatment options.

But there is also another segment that are still healthy enough to make changes both in their drug treatment plans and lifestyle. For these Americans considering natural herbal remedies for common problems such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol is something worth considering. By working with your doctor to find smart ways of combining a natural herbal treatment or treatments with exercise, diet, and other lifestyle modification you may be able to avoid the fate that has befallen my friend Terry, putting you on the path to leaving the ranks of the chronically unhealthy.

Staying Strong Will Help You Survive Our Busy Modern World

November 23rd, 2009  |  Published in Sexual Health

We live in a modern world where things happen in the blink of an eye. Communication and transport make life fast and to keep up we have to remain young. Young at heart, young in mind and young in body regardless of our actual age has become the principal of survival in this environment.

Yet this busy world and its fast pace creates stress that actually makes us age faster. We are all so busy that often we neglect the very important things like proper exercise and healthy eating that can help keep us young and allow us to keep up with the rest of the world.

Another factor that causes us to age faster is the fact that our modern world has become so sedentary and inactive. Many people spend a large part of their day seated either at work and again at home watching television or on the internet. This has a disastrous effect on the human body as the muscular system no longer receives enough of the activity and stimulation that it needs to remain healthy.

When it does it not receive the signals to stay strong the human body starts to lose its muscle tissue which starts to dwindle away in the mid 20′s unless of course something is done to stop it. If you want to stay in good shape and remain as youthful as possible you have to begin adding lean muscle tissue to your frame. Here is why:

Muscle tissue comprises between 30 -50% of a persons bodyweight and is highly metabolically active. This means it needs lots of fuel (calories) to maintain itself. Even when you sleep your muscles are responsible for more than 25 percent of your calorie use. Adding a mere 3 pounds of lean muscle tissue through proper strength training exercise will increase your metabolism (the rate you burn fuel) by around 10 percent.

Think of the implications of this over the long term. You will burn off unwanted body fat without having to resort to dieting. You will have more energy, vitality, vigor and look and feel years (even decades) younger. And the biggie – you will have greater protection from disease which stalks and attacks one out or every two people on this planet.

People who want to keep up with life in general in this rapidly changing world along with the desire to stay active and competitive have to enlist proper exercise strategies. This is your lifeline along with good nutrition so you can continue a vibrant and exciting lifestyle as well as preventing disease.

Your strength training program needs to be set up and monitored by a fitness professional for best results and it must also be regular and consistent. Don’t be concerned if you do not see immediate results as you are taking steps to counter the aging process and that is the important thing to remember.

The result that you want with your exercise program is to replace bad habits (not exercising) with healthy ones and you will feel the many benefits that come with your positive choice.

An overall stronger body along with stronger systems and processes will help ensure you can remain active and competitive in whatever opportunities come your way in life, no matter your age. Strength training exercise will deliver this to you and much more if you give it the chance.

Covering the Eucalyptus

November 23rd, 2009  |  Published in Sexual Health

While native to the Australian continent, the Eucalyptus plant is now cultivated on all the other continents with the exception on Antarctica and is prized for ability to grow quickly and supple wood, along with its natural oils that can be used for cleaning and serve as natural insecticides.

    The plant described:

The leaves of the eucalyptus plant are leathery and mainly evergreen with a few species dropping them during a dry season. They are waxy or glossy green in color and covered with glands that secrete volatile oils that are prized for their fragrance and medicinal properties. The flowers of the plant are one of its most distinguishing characteristics and the reason why it was named “eucalyptus” which is Greek for “well covered”. While budding, the flowers are covered with a cup like membrane, which is then split open as the showy stamens of the flower expand.  The fruit  is also surrounded by a woody cone shaped cover and contain numerous seeds.

The most valuable commodities, however, are the oils that it produces  which are dived up into three categories: medicinal, industrial and aromatic.

The oil extracted from the leaves can contain up to 70% eucalyptol, which is a compound with effective disinfectant capabilities. This makes the plant one of the most powerful antiseptics in its class.  This oil, which can be clear or straw colored, is extracted through the process of steam distillation. It is soluble in equal parts alcohol  and makes for a great cleaning agent and natural insecticide.

The oil can also be taken internally and is present in small amounts in certain candies and cough drops. Eucalyptus oil is considered a stimulant and can increase your heart rate and effect your senses. It can also be used as an effective gargle.

The oil is also used in aroma therapy, giving of a pleasant woody scent that can help balance and stimulate you. It plays a role as a decongestant and nasal inhalant helping with asthma and bronchitis. Many people use the oil in the process of steam inhalation to help clear the nasal passages and sinuses.

To steam inhale, pour 4 to 6 cups of boiling water into a large bowl. Add three drops of E. globulus oil, the lower your head down into the bowl. Cover your head with a towel, close your eyes and breathe in deeply for about 15 minutes.

      Improving Cardiovascular Fitness With Treadmills

November 23rd, 2009  |  Published in Sexual Health

Do you want to get ripped and improve your physical appearance? If so, you need to learn how to improve your cardiovascular fitness. You can do so with fitness treadmills.

Home treadmills are very affordable these days, so there is really no excuse for not engaging in cardiovascular exercises. First, let’s explore the benefits of improving cardiovascular health.

When you engage in any kind of cardio activity, you raise your heart rate. The more intense the exercise, the faster your heart will beat, and the more fat you will burn. Ideally, you must get your heart rate to at least 60% of your maximum heart rate for your exercise to be effective. Therefore, a leisurely walk in the park doesn’t count as cardio exercise. You must remember to work out intensely.

Some people believe that they burn more fat by exercising at moderate intensity. This assumption is incorrect. The body does use up a higher proportion of fat for energy when you exercise moderately. But when you exercise intensely, the total amount of fat that you burn will always be more than moderate exercise.

Based on this understanding, always get a treadmill that allow you to get an intense workout. If you are on a tight budget, you can always start with a manual treadmill. A manual treadmill cost less than $200. Although you are providing all the energy, it still helps you achieve your goals – which is to break a sweat and burn fat!

Many modern treadmills are designed for the homeowners who live in small apartments. Space is always a concern because some treadmills can be rather bulky. Fortunately, most home treadmills come with folding functions. You can fold up the machines to save space when you are not running.

If you have some spare cash, you may wish to invest in a higher end treadmill. Higher end home treadmills cost about $1,000. At this price, you will be able to get a high quality machine. The treadmill should come with MP3 support and built-in speakers. These are additional features though. It’s good to have them, but they are not a must.

Before buying the treadmill, make sure you access the motor and the performance of the running belt. High end treadmills should come with motors that provide at least 2.0 continuous horse power. That should provide a top speed of 10mph and an adjustable incline from 0% to 10%. The maximum user weight should be around 300 pounds.

The best way to assess a treadmill is to make a trip to your local fitness equipment store. Don’t just buy based on what you see on the brochure. Some machines look good on paper, but they are not reliable. They break down after a few months.

When trying out the treadmill, you must feel comfortable using the machine. Does it make too much noise? Is the treadmill shaking too much when you are pounding on it? If you don’t feel comfortable using it, the specs don’t matter. Just don’t invest in it. Go try out other fitness treadmills.

Dieting Guide – High Protein, Low Carbohydrate Diet

November 23rd, 2009  |  Published in Sexual Health

If you are active in the gym, you will notice that many fitness enthusiasts tend to go on a high protein, low carb diet. What are the benefits of such a diet?

Firstly, you will always need a high amount of protein if you are working out regularly. When you workout, your put stress on your muscles. Protein will help your muscles repair and grow. As you continue to build lean muscle mass, you metabolism starts to increase. The higher the metabolism, the more fat the body burns.

Secondly, observe that most people are consuming way too much carb. This has a negative impact on the composition of the body. For instance, when an individual’s diet comprises mostly rice and a small amount of protein, this almost always lead to obesity. Why? Because it’s easier to convert carb to fat. And since the body doesn’t need so much carb to function, the excess is stored as fat.

Therefore, in order to stay slim and fit, it’s always wise to control your diet – that is, go on a high protein, low carb diet. How do you do so?

      Tip 1: Eat smaller meals.

Whatever you are having for your regularly meals now, split the portion into half. Notice that when you finish half of your meal, you no longer feel hungry. Most people just keep eating until they feel bloated. That’s a sure sign that they are overeating. Never try to beat a crappy diet with exercise. It’ll never work. Make sure you stick to a proper eating plan in order to stay healthy.

Tip 2: Eat 2 more meals per day.

To compensate for the smaller meals, you are allowed to eat 2 more meals each day. The goal is to help you maintain a steady level of energy throughout the entire day. That is why professional athletes and bodybuilders eat as many as 6 meals a day. If you don’t have the habit of taking so many meals, you can always start by consuming a protein shake in the morning. Then progress to take another protein shake in the evening, before you go to bed.

Tip 3: Learn to prepare your own meals.

Since you can’t control how restaurants cook the meals, you find that sooner or later, you need to learn how to prepare your own meals. Knowing how to prepare your own meals help you to save money in the long run. The meals are healthier, and you have full control over the calories and nutrients you are consuming for the day.

When preparing meals, make sure that it’s a high protein, low carb meal. For example, a good meal contains the following ingredients.

4 oz chicken or turkey breast.

1 teaspoon of olive or flax seed oil.

1 scoop of mashed potatoes (your carb).

1 small portion of mixed salad.

A balanced meal should contain protein, carb, and a little bit of fat.

We provide tips on How to control your diet at our site regularly. Become a fan of our facebook page and share your fitness experience to others.

Herbal Remedies – Types, Benefits and Common Caveats

November 23rd, 2009  |  Published in Sexual Health

A single herbal remedy can provide several great benefits. Nowadays, with the number of chemicals used in medicine and the increasing demand for natural supplements, people are turning to herbal cures for their ailments. There are, fortunately, several herbal remedies for any specific condition. If you’re interested in alternative medicine, here are four common herbal cures, their benefits as well as drawbacks.

      Andrographis

Andrographis is one of the herbal remedies used in traditional Indian and Chinese medicine. There are several products in the market that contain andrographis and most are used to treat common colds. Aside from colds, andrographis is also used for flue and even as an immune-booster, which makes it considerably effective in preventing cancer.

When pitted against placebo medicines, this herbal remedy has been known to be superior, especially when used to alleviate symptoms associated with infections to the upper respiratoy tract. The only downsides of this herb are common side effects, which include nausea, headache, diarrhea, fatigue and specific allergic reactions.

      Bowtrol

Another common herbal cure is bowtrol. This is a common dietary supplement that is known to cleanse the colon. Furthermore, bowtrol is known to contain the following: aloe, cloves, garlic, cascara sagrada, bentonite clay, wormseed, flax seeds, olive leaf extract, peppermint, and black seeds, among others.

Bowtrol acts as detoxifying agent that cleanses the system of any toxins. The effect will be clearer skin, improved focus, better energy and even weight loss. But like other natural cures, bowtrol is known to produce side effects especially to people with certain conditions: blood vessel disease, gastrointestinal cancer, kidney disease, liver disease as well as patients who’ve just recently underwent colon surgery.

      Boswellia

Boswellia also goes by the name of Indian frankincense. This herb is particularly popular in India and used as ayurveda or traditional medicine. The extract from the plant is known to contain boswellia acid, which possesses great anti-inflammatory characteristics.

Boswelia is commonly used for arthritis, menstrual cramps, ulcerative colitis and asthma. The long term effects of boswellia are still unknown. Because of this, it is important to consult a doctor first before using.

      Rhodiola

Also known as Arctic root, Rhodiola is a popular herb in Russia and other European countries. This plant is considered to be extremely effective in building the body’s resistance to stress. And because of that Rhodiola is efficient in fighting depression, sleep deficiencies, fatigue and even cancer.

As one of the more popular herbal remedies and like other natural cures, Rhodiola is generally considered safe but still likely to produce reactions, like insomnia and irritability. Before using the herb as medication, it is crucial to obtain medical opinion first to ensure safety.
