Effective Herbal Remedies for Annoying Sore Throat

November 27th, 2009  |  Published in Sexual Health

During cold seasons, sore throats, in addition to colds, are probably the most common health problem for many. Having a sore throat is very annoying and difficult to cope. When accompanied by colds and cough, the condition can be exponentially difficult to handle. There are even instances when sore throats cannot be cured by OTC drugs. Fortunately, there is a wide variety of alternative medicine that can help eliminate sore throat. Here is a small list of some of the most common herbal remedies for sore throat.

1. Cayenne

One of the most effective herbal remedies for sore throats is easy to obtain, because almost every household has it on their spice rack. Cayenne is also easy to prepare as evident by its long history as an old cure for sore throat. The best remedy that has cayenne in it is the apple cider concoction, which contains a pinch of cayenne, juice of 1/4 lemon, a teaspoon of honey and apple cider vinegar combined with a cup of hot water.

2. Licorice

Licorice is another one of the effective herbal remedies for sore throat. This herb is commonly found as ingredient in teabags that are used to cure the ailment. When drank for less than ten days, licorice will not show any side-effects. However, licorice is not designed for long-term use because it is shown to cause headaches, high-blood pressure and even swelling.

3. Sage

Throat sprays that contain sage are effective in alleviating sore throat. Sage is even found to relieve symptoms of the ailment on the first couple of hours prior to administration. But if you’re planning to use sage as a handy treatment for sore throat, make sure to purchase throat sprays specifically designed for sore throats and contain sage.

4. Honeysuckle Flower

Another commonly used herbal remedy for sore throat is honeysuckle. This sweet-tasting herb has a longstanding history in Chinese alternative medicine, which is why you’ll generally find honeysuckle flower products in oriental drug stores. Honeysuckle flower, when made into tea, poured into one quart of boiled water, steeped for 10 minutes, and consumed at four-cups per day, is tremendously efficient in treating sore throat.

5. Marshmallow

Marshmallow is another one of the most effective herbal remedies commonly found in North America and Europe. This plant has been used for centuries as sore throat remedy. The root of the plant is mostly used to treat the ailment. One tablespoon of dried root made into tea and served on a cup of boiling water is effective for relieving sore throat.

Can You Cure Your Acid Reflux With an Apple?

November 27th, 2009  |  Published in Sexual Health

We have always been taught that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. And this is very true for those people who are suffering from acid reflux.

Acid reflux, also known as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease or GERD, is a condition wherein fluids from the stomach are regurgitated or refluxed back into the esophagus. This chronic condition causes pain or heartburn and the acids that are refluxed into the esophagus may damage the lining of the esophagus, increasing the risk of cancer.

There are many ways to manage acid reflux as there are quite a number of prescription and over the counter drugs available. However, these drugs have been found to cause more harm than good since these only address the symptoms and not the root cause of acid reflux. And since acid reflux is a chronic condition, the prolonged use of these drugs has also been found to be bad for the body.

This is the reason why natural remedies for acid reflux have become more popular. And among the many natural acid reflux remedies, apples have been known to effectively cure the condition.

There are no clinical studies to prove the effectiveness of apples as remedy for acid reflux. However, more and more people who suffer from the condition are happy with the relief they are getting by eating apples for their acid reflux symptoms.

When the stomach starts digesting the food that you eat, it produces acids to help break down food. Apples, which are natural antacids, when eaten, gives the stomach signals that it does not need to produce more acid. Apples are also one of the many alkaline-forming foods that lower the amount of acid produced in the body, thus lessening the chances of an acid reflux from happening.

Eating apples when one is suffering from acid reflux also helps in digestion. Chewing a raw apple increases the production of saliva, which reduces the need for the body to produce more acid, preventing the occurrence of an acid reflux.

Aside from preventing acid reflux, apples also protect and minimize the chances of developing esophageal cancer because it is one of the best natural sources of quercetin, a powerful antioxidant that belongs to the flavonoid family of phytochemicals. Quercetin is a powerful antioxidant that reduces free radical damage and helps reduce the chances of cancer, stroke and heart disease, as well as speed up the healing of damaged esophageal tissue and reduces inflammation. Quercetin is primarily found in the bright red skin of apples so when used for treating acid reflux, it is best to eat fresh, raw apples everyday.

Boosting Your immune System

November 27th, 2009  |  Published in Sexual Health

When your body and mind are in a state of balance you will enjoy the best of health. Poor health, or dis-ease, reflects an imbalance; it is a physical manifestation of imbalance in some part of your life. It is easy to conjecture that the increase in viral disease and the speed with which it can spread right across the globe is reflective of a growing epidemic of imbalance in the way in which we live in the modern world.

Can you, hand on your heart, truthfully say that your life is one of balance? Do you have a good balance between work and play? Do you take one full day off every week as a complete day of rest and relaxation? Do you relax deeply for at least twenty minutes every day? Do you eat a balanced diet which suits your physiology? Do you enjoy the benefits of regular exercise? If you drink alcohol, do you drink in a balanced way or do you binge once a week or so?

I very much doubt that many people in this day and age can answer affirmatively to these questions. The way in which you live your life can place your health at risk; if you do not live in a balanced manner you are placing undue stress upon your body and testing your immune system to its limits. You need to pay respect to your body and do whatever you can to boost your immune system if you wish to enjoy good health and a feeling of well being.

It can be difficult to live your life in a balanced way when the world around you is spiraling out of control. We are naturally inclined to “fit in” and tend to prefer to align our actions with those around us as opposed to standing apart from the crowd. But when you can see that the main body of people around you are heading for disaster, you may feel that it is high time to jump ship and live by your own standards.

It feels like more and more individuals are seeking a way in which to do this; the tide is turning and more and more people are looking for a way in which to regain balance and the result will inevitably be less dis-ease, better health and a feeling of well-being. This tipping point is well overdue.

You can get a head start from the rest of the crowd and lead the way to good health and well being. You can examine your life and set in motion a plan to create balance in every area possible. You can boost your immune system in many ways, by creating a balanced diet, exercising sensibly, getting sufficient sleep, creating a balance between work and play, and so on.

One thing which can help tremendously, and which everyone can do, is to learn to use hypnosis. Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxation which provides access to your subconscious mind. Hypnosis can help you to relax and to take a step back and see things from a different angle. You can easily change habits and behaviors and more easily see new opportunities. You can boost your immune system intentionally with the help of hypnosis. Why not try it for yourself and experience its empowering effects?

Natural Skin Care For Acne

November 27th, 2009  |  Published in Sexual Health

Acne affects nearly everyone at some point in his or her life. It can be painful to endure, and even leave scars if severe enough. While there are many remedies available for over the counter or prescription purchase, some products are laden with chemicals and acids that may have adverse effects. Fortunately, there are effective natural alternatives to these harsh chemical treatments.

What’s the Problem?

Acne is caused by dead skin cells and the body’s own natural oils becoming trapped in the pores of the skin. These changes lead to bacterial growth that causes the inflammation and discomfort associated with the condition, as well as the scarring and infection in severe cases.

Diet may impact the development of acne. The hormonal content of partially skimmed milk, the high glycemic content of certain simple carbohydrates, and low levels of vitamins A and E have all been linked to the formation of acne in some research.

Proper home care of acne outbreaks requires treating both of the factors involved: diet and environment.

Basic Care

There are several methods of controlling acne that don’t require any specific treatment or product. The first is diet. Since simple carbohydrates may have an effect, acne sufferers should consider limiting processed foods high in sugar, and opt for a high-fiber, protein-rich diet instead. In addition, increasing intake of vitamins A and E is recommended by some experts to fight acne. Eating right will have other health benefits beyond clear skin, so a healthy diet in general is a win/win solution.

Cleaning Up

While the instinct is to keep the skin very clean, it is important to remember acne is not caused by dirt, but by the body’s own oils and skin becoming trapped in the pores. You cannot simply scrub acne away, and in fact doing so may aggravate the skin and result in an increase in oil production. Instead, stick to washing your face twice a day, as well as after particularly heavy perspiration that may send more oils and skin into the pores.

To cleanse your face, use a non-abrasive (specifically a non alcohol based) cleanser, and apply gently with the fingers. Again, using harsh abrasives or a washcloth may cause irritation, and do more harm than good. The trick is to clean smarter, not harder. For people with oily hair, wash and shampoo daily with an equally gentle shampoo. Oily hair will cause just as many problems as perspiration, so don’t neglect caring for it. Finally, use lukewarm water rather than hot water, since it will be less harsh on the skin.

Thou Shalt Nots

For starters, avoid the temptation to pop or scrape the blemishes that form on the face. This is actually one of the worst things you can do to acne-afflicted skin. It exposes the wound to bacteria and additional oil, meaning it can cause extra inflammation, breakouts, or possibly even infection.

As mentioned before, oily hair can aggravate neck, forehead, and shoulder acne. For that reason acne sufferers are advised to avoid heavy, greasy hair products such as gels and pomades. Make sure your shampoo isn’t too harsh, as well. Drying out the scalp will have a similar effect as drying out the facial skin, leading to extra oil production that can gravitate to the forehead and clog more pores.

Many people like to use skin masks to improve skin tone, but this should be avoided while treating acne breakouts. As might be expected, masks often trap dead skin and oils against the skin, leading to more clogged pores and further breakouts.

Avoid harsh chemical cleansers with alcohol or astringents. These may dry out and irritate the skin, exacerbating the problem. Additionally, drying out the skin can cause dry, painful itching, and scratching will scrape skin and spread oils that can clog pores.

Last but not least, control the exposure of the skin to sunlight and tanning. Sun exposure can dry, damage and irritate the skin.

Better Skin, Naturally

Healthy skin comes with a healthy body, so focus on natural solutions that contribute to your overall wellbeing. Avoid harsh chemicals and be gentle with your sensitive skin. Natural skin care is all about being good to your body and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Acne is a result of irritation, and proper acne care involves reducing the irritation through proper care and diet.

The Natural Leukemia Treatment

November 27th, 2009  |  Published in Sexual Health

Leukemia is any of a variety of diseases of the blood forming tissues (bone marrow, lymph system, or spleen). Leukemia involve the production of abnormal white blood cells that do not function like normal cells, do not mature properly, and do not die off in a normal fashion. Leukemia affects both children and adults, although certain forms are most common in particular age groups. It is somewhat more common in Caucasians than in African-Americans.

There are many different types of leukemia. Leukemia’s are categorized by type (named after the type of cell infected) and by whether they are chronic (in which the growth rate is slow) or acute in which the onset is sudden.  While there is no known cure, transfusions, chemotherapy, and bone marrow transplant are often effective treatments. Newer treatments include stem cell transplant, umbilical cord blood cell transplant, infusion of cell specific antibodies and biological therapy.

The natural leukemia treatment diet and nutrition

Soy products, which contain genistein and other isoflavones, may offer protection against leukemia. Good soy foods include tempeh, roasted soy nuts, soy powder protein and miso.

The bioflavonoid quercetin has been found in numerous studies to have anti-leukemia properties. Genistein has shown positive effects in destroying leukemia cells in laboratory tests. Low selenium levels have been associated with a greater risk.

The natural leukemia treatment recommended by almost top alternative doctors is the self-administered oxygen therapy. The principle is so simple, microbes, harmful bacteria, and viruses such as leukemia, and all types of cancer, heart disease and even aids, do not cause the disease by themselves. They just thrive and increased in their natural habitat the oxygen – deprived body. When the body is depleted of oxygen it the cells becomes acidic and malignant and normally all kinds of viruses and harmful bacteria thrive and reproduce in and increasing manner. When the cells of our body is supplied with oxygen it becomes uninhabitable by all kinds of diseases and viruses. Therefore, the recommended and ideal first line of defense is to keep the body always oxygenated. Take the time to explore and study this effective and treatment.

Underactive Thyroid treatment – what are my options?

November 27th, 2009  |  Published in Sexual Health

This article will discuss underactive Thyroid treatment options and whether it is best to go with conventional or alternative methods. I’ll also explain what an underactive Thyroid is and what some of the causes are. Always discuss any treatments you may be considering with your doctor or health care provider beforehand.

The Thyroid gland is located in the neck and its purpose is to produce a range of hormones which regulate our growth and metabolism. In some people the Thyroid can become sluggish and not enough Thyroid hormones are produced for the body to function correctly and we might suffer from symptoms such as low body temperature, dizziness, constipation and extreme tiredness. We call this condition Hypothyroidism which basically means an underactive Thyroid gland.

There are probably many, many causes for this condition including Iodine deficiency, build up of toxins in the body or it can even be from an attack on the Thyroid gland by your own immune system as in Hashimoto’s disease.

When diagnosed with Hypothyroidism your doctor will probably prescribe you Thyroxine (T4) which is a synthetic version of a Thyroid hormone. For many this works well and alleviates symptoms quickly but for others it can produce side effects and prolong the suffering.

Fortunately there are some very good alternatives for treating this condition such as natural Thyroid hormones and homeopathic medicine. Natural Thyroid hormones are derived from Pigs’ Thyroid glands and naturally contain all the Thyroid hormones which is why we see great results from these types of products. Homeopathic medicine approaches things in a different way and aims to heal the root cause of the Hypothyroidism where internal healing can sometimes return the Thyroid gland to its fully functional state. There are many underactive Thyroid treatments available which get great results but must only be done with the guidance of a qualified professional.

For more information on underactive Thyroid treatment and to discover how to stop Hypothyroidism dead in its tracks, please visit the natural treatments for Hypothyroidism website.
