Homeopathy: What Do You Need to Know?

January 9th, 2010  |  Published in Women's Health

With a huge history of treating humanity, homeopathic system of medicine is fast becoming popular among masses. This holistic mode of therapy got so many followers for the simple reason that it works effectively yet mildly just to help patient get rid of his disease without creating any undue side effects. Here is an attempt to let everyone know about homeopathy—

Are the homeopathic medicines curative?

The stalwarts in homeopathy certainly believe that it is a curative and not palliative mode of therapy. The simple colds to gangrenes and cancerous conditions have found relief with homeopathic system of medicine. Without giving undue importance to the diagnosis of the disease, homeopathic treatment aims at the individual symptom complex and matches this symptom complex with that of the medicine. Homeopathic material medica is a vast galore of symptom complex different homeopathic remedies can inflict upon an individual as drug symptoms. When these both match aptly, permanent cure can be achieved within matter of few minutes, hours, days or months depending upon the gravity of the condition.

However, in cases of excessively pathological conditions where modern medicine fails to impart any relief, homeopathy can help to alleviate the symptoms and palliate the condition. Virtually there is no condition or disease that is not under the realm of homeopathic system of medicine. Rather in many of the cases, homeopathic medicines are believed to replace surgeon’s knife. The conditions like hemorrhoids, abscesses, fissures, and renal calculi etc homeopathy offers relief without necessitating the need of surgery.

Is the case history so important in homeopathy?

Many people know homeopathy by its lengthy history taking. Well, it is true that homeopathic masters have initialized the move of history taking that we current homeopaths are still following. There are certainly different methods of history taking today but most of the homeopaths do follow or should follow what Dr Hahnemann has taught us. As homeopathy is a holistic mode of therapy, the homeopath needs to know more about the patient as a whole and not just disease diagnosis. Also the causative factors and concomitant symptoms of the patient are equally important. Right from childhood, every individual has a “health character” of his own that involves various milestones on the way. Those are important to know the person as a whole and so is the need of detailed history taking. Patients those are honest and give detailed history are obviously benefited the most!

Is it a long duration treatment with Homeopathy?

Well, in most cases, the patients turn towards homeopathy after trying out virtually everything (though things are changing fast these days). So, many patients already have some impressions of other remedies and those need to be nullified before starting homeopathic treatment. Secondly, duration of homeopathic treatment varies from person to person. To improve the disease-fighting capacity and enhance the immunity of the person, we need to continue the medication for a certain period so that natural immunity is boosted.

Why my homeopathic doctor does not tell me the name of the medicine he is giving me?

Good question indeed! The fact is that the hiding of homeopathic remedy name is not done for doctors’ benefit. It is done purely for benefit of the patient. If the name is known, there are chances that the patient will take the same medicine when he falls sick with similar-looking symptoms next time. This is no doubt dangerous, as the symptom complex may not match the disease complex every time in similar way. That’s why expert homeopath’s opinion is must before you try for any remedy. Especially for chronic cases, one must not try any homeopathic medicine without consulting the expert homeopathic physician.

Does homeopathy recommends too many diet restrictions?

No! This is one of the myths associated with homeopathy I would like to say. According to Dr Sankaran, a stalwart homeopath, the homeopathic medicines are so very potent that nothing can dilute their effectiveness. But some homeopaths do restrict raw onion, garlic, coffee etc. Also mint and camphor are restricted. But today the leading homeopaths believe that the above mentioned items should not be eaten immediately before and after taking homeopathic medicines. This may dilute their action as the medicines are dynamic and have very minute dosages. Also there are some diet restrictions with certain medicines. The generalized restriction of above mentioned items is not recommended.

Alcohol Treatment Can Solve Problems

January 9th, 2010  |  Published in Women's Health

There are many problems that are associated with alcohol addiction. These problems are all interconnected. One will lead to another. Let’s explore some of these problems.

Problem 1: Health issues.

Problem 2: Financial issues.

Problem 3: Relationship issues.

Problem 4: Legal issues.

Problem 1: Health issues.

The problem starts with health. Alcohol is a toxic drink that can get people addicted. Once drinking becomes a habit, it’s very hard to get rid of the habit as the body starts to show withdrawal symptoms. The individual experiences a great deal of discomfort and suffering without alcohol. So he goes back to drinking again. To break out of this vicious cycle is never easy. In severe cases, professional assistance may be required.

Over time, drinking can cause the liver to harden. With the liver fulfilling its function, the health of the individual starts to suffer. It is not uncommon for addicts to appear listless and lethargic the whole day. Sometimes, the eyeballs may even appear yellowish.

Problem 2: Financial issues.

Drinking becomes a more serious problem with the financial aspect is affected. Drinks can be expensive. Many nights out with friends having drinks can mean spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars each month. Even if the individual is rich enough to afford such drinking sessions on a daily basis, eventually the damage caused on the body will also affect the finances. Only someone with a healthy body can continue to work and earn a steady income.

If the body deteriorates to a state where it can no longer function normally, it breaks down and requires medical attention. Needless to say, medical fees can be substantial. All these activities combine to have a great impact on the finances of the individual.

Problem 3: Relationship issues.

For bachelors and singles, the impact is not that great. Even then, family and friends may be concerned about the ongoing drinking addiction as most people are aware of the potential dangers of drinking. This causes relationships to suffer.

For sole breadwinners, the consequence can be disastrous. If the sole breadwinner loses the capacity to earn, the entire family suffers. Soon, it becomes impossible for the family to continue to function normally due to lack of funds.

Problem 4: Legal issues.

Drinking affects the mind and impairs judgment. Many times, drunk behavior leads to behavior that may get the individual into trouble with the law. For instance, we sometimes witness drunkards getting into fights. Or we may see drunk drivers getting involved in accidents or speeding on high ways. Such behavior will get the individual into trouble with the law.

As you can see, one problem leads to another. The key is not to let the situation get out of control. Going for the occasional chill out sessions with friends is perfectly fine. But be mindful about the drinking and don’t let such activities become the focus of the mind and body. If one or any of these problems starts to surface, alcohol treatment is available for those who want help.

Jaundice Home Remedies and Natural Treatment

January 9th, 2010  |  Published in Women's Health

Jaundice is a disease of the liver that is characterized by yellowing of the skin and the sclera. It is caused by the high amount of bilirubin in the blood. Depending on the level of the bilirubin, the yellow pigmentation of the skin and the sclera may vary. This yellowness is seen even in the fingernails, stools and urine. The yellowness is an indication that the circulation of bile is in excess.

Some of the common symptoms that indicate something is wrong with the liver are loss of appetite, flatulence, diarrhea, pain in the abdomen and difficulty in breathing and coughing. There are some simple tips and home remedies that can help in the treatment of jaundice. In this article we will discuss some useful guidelines for treating jaundice.

Natural Home Remedies for Jaundice

1. Include Vitamin A rich foods in your diet such as leafy vegetables and fruits. Vitamin C is also required for tissue healing, as there is tissue destruction.

2. Ayurvedic medicines such as Liv 52 are very beneficial for the liver. Medicines containing bhui amla are also very useful to bring the serum bilirubin back to normal.

3. Dietary precautions and recommendations have to be followed for early and proper recovery from the jaundice.

4. Do not wander in the sun or sit beside a fire till your serum bilirubin returns to normal.

5. Do not take stress, get tense and angry or indulge in sex. All these factors aggravate pitta dosha according to Ayurveda, which is responsible for liver disorders.

6. Do not take irregular meals. It disturbs the digestive system and thereby affects the liver.

7. Walking fast or doing other heavy work just after having food is dangerous for the liver if done regularly. This is because the blood needed for digestion is diverted towards the other vigorous activities. Do work only 25-30 minutes after meals, especially in the afternoons.

8. A slow 10-15 minute walk after dinner will improve digestion. A good digestion prevents and helps in the treatment of many diseases.
