Are You Using The Fountain Of Youth To Keep You Youthful?

January 11th, 2010  |  Published in Women's Health

None of us wants to get old but we can’t stop the slowly increasing number of candles on our birthday cake. Many people are waiting for the miracle drug – that fountain of youth that will keep us feeling and looking young. The bad news is there is no miracle drug but the very good news is there is a fountain of youth. It is called proper exercise. If you want to maintain your physical, mental and emotional health and your quality of life regardless of your age exercise is the key factor.

The aging process can be very unkind if we fail to take steps to take care of ourselves with the biggest problem faced as we get older the loss of lean body mass. Every year one half pound of muscle and bone mass is lost if not enough strength building and maintaining activity is done. This means that the very structure of our body deteriorates as along with the weakening of our muscles our bones weaken and grow brittle as well.

It was once believed that this was part of the aging process and nothing could be done to prevent it. But we now know it is not the passing years that cause it but lack of vigorous activity that stimulates the growth and repair hormones that can keep our body and mind strong and youthful.

If something as simple as a proper exercise program that contains mostly strength training exercise can slow down or even prevent this decay – deteriorate – and fall apart downward spiral why are more people not doing it regularly? It is hard to imagine who would not want the anti aging benefits along with a much higher quality of life that proper exercise has been proven to deliver over and over again.

.

Many older adults resist the idea of beginning an exercise program because they believe that it is too late for them to start exercising or that they will not be able to do it. In reality, however it is never ever too late to begin a proper exercise program. Unless you are in a coma, you can exercise. If you can move, you can exercise.

But it will be well worth your time and effort, as just 2-3 sessions each week can maintain your strength and vitality throughout your entire life. You can transform your body from the inside out restoring health, improving physical function and preventing illness and disease.

Take it upon yourself not to let your world become smaller and less enjoyable by surrendering your physical capabilities. Proper exercise is not some optional luxury item but an essential form of preventative medicine, a critical ingredient for maintaining healthy bodies and minds.

Consider yourself lucky in that so much knowledge is available to make sure you never have to suffer the indignity of your health and mobility being eroded away. Make the most of this fact so you can always stay strong, fit and well to protect your future.

Free personal development plan in five points – Personal development articles amd blog

January 11th, 2010  |  Published in Women's Health

AmAre Way ( http://www.amareway.org/ ) is a verb standing for “To Love” in Italian language, a culture which is strongly family-oriented. It is also our personal development plan, which keeps in consideration the power of context:

Aware (Being)
Meditating
Active (Being)
Respectful (Being)
Eating (properly)

If we want to look a bit more under the surface, it also shows we are united in an interconnected universe: there is no (I) Am without (We) are. This is an extremely simple concept to understand, but which has positive effects for a lifetime. If you want to walk this path toward holistic living, just add this blog to your favourites. If you just passed by, and you think you’ll not return, we hope at least you’ll bring with you these simple five steps to happiness, and we hope they will be as beneficial to you as they have been to us.

A – Aware (Being)
Being aware is the process which turns our lives and improves them. It is not a one-time task, it is a life-long exploration. It can start in different ways, from different reasons. Being aware starts with understanding that, while the past made us what we are today, and the future may give us the time to put our skills at the service of our beloved ones, the present is the only tense which really counts, and here the only place where we are. Being aware also means considering the needs and wants of ourselves, the people who are dear to us, the people who do not arise any specific feeling in us, and the ones who we would not rather meet.

M – Meditating
Meditating can be done in a non-sectarian or religious way. Praying is a form of meditation, loving kindness is contemplated in meditation, meditating may also be a way to relax the mind. It can be done standing, sitting, walking, and it has also been said that sleeping may be the most effective form of meditation.

A – Active (Being)
Being active to put in practice what we learn is extremely important. That shows to us if we are motivated enough, and also provide a loop of thinking-acting-rethinking which is the way to progress. Holistic living is a state of mind, and also a state of action. One basic example about the importante of being active. We can find online thousands of tasty recipes, but even if we learn them by heart, they do not feed us. We can also find many advices about empowering people and solving the world’s challenges; words and speeches are as important as the actions they inspire.

R – Respectful (Being)
Being respectful starts with respecting ourselves. By being both objective and loving about who we are, we build the start for improving relationship with the one we care for, and the world. Being respectful with ourselves is implemented in many ways: listening to our body, for signals it may be very comfortable, in need of a rest, etc. Listening to our feelings, needs and wants, and communicate them in a respectful way to our beloved ones. We also need to be respectful of other people, and environment. And respect the power of the context, which is formed by the place and time where events take place.

E – Eating (properly)
Eating properly is self-evident: we are what we eat! Still, even if we heard it many times, we need to remind it to ourselves when we sit at the table. Eating properly is a form of respect towards our body; and also towards the generations which preceded us, and to whom we owe our nativity.

Aware (Being)

Active (Being)
Respectful (Being)
Eating (properly)

If we want to digg a bit more under the surface, it also shows we are united in an interconnected universe: there is no (I) Am without (We) are. The One And Only Effective Way To Lose Weight

January 11th, 2010  |  Published in Women's Health

and it is time for a change. You may also want to consider changing your outlook on exercise as proper exercise is superior to dieting and is the only solution for permanent fat loss.

The old fashion notion that we could simply starve off the fat with a restrictive food diet does not work. It never has and it never will. We now know that 95 percent of diets fail yet for some strange reason people continue to try each new fad diet in the hope that maybe this latest one will work.

There is only one way to lose stored body fat – and that is to create a calorie deficit and there are two ways to do this. One is to decrease your food intake so you are eating less than you burn (in other words a diet). The other is to increase your activity levels so you are burning more than you eat.

Of these two ways to create a calorie deficit, burning the fat through activity is far superior to trying to starve it off. What happens when we cut calories too much is that it does cause some weight loss at first but it also causes muscle tissue loss. This is not a good thing for an overweight person as it causes a decrease in metabolism (the rate you burn fuel).

This is the general pattern of conventional diets, you lose weight at first but then you hit a plateau and weight loss stops. Cutting calories at this point only digs you into a deeper ‘metabolic hole” further reducing the efficiency of your fat burning machinery making further fat loss much harder.

The modern approach is to do the opposite of dieting and that is to burn the fat off using strength training exercise to increase the metabolic rate so you are burning more fuel every minute of the day and night. Dieting slows this down, proper exercise increases it. Proper exercise also has major health benefits, while starvation can only create health problems both short term and long term.

To get this increase in metabolism you have to work your muscles through their ranges of movement under a load. Recreational endurance activities like walking, jogging or cycling will not do this, so keep those activities as part of your active lifestyle but remember only muscle building and strengthening activity has the power to increase your metabolism.

So forget the eat less mindset and fuel your body with healthy foods every 2-3 hours so you have the energy to support your exercise regime as that is where you will get your fat loss from. Ditch the processed stuff full of fat, sugar and chemicals and give your body the most nutrients you can with fresh natural foods cooked from scratch making sure you include a serving of protein at each of your 5-7 small meals.

With you eating healthy food and your proper exercise program you will get a double increase in your metabolism and the fat will come off in the quickest way possible. Just accept that there is no other way but to build yourself a strong, lean and healthy body and let it go to work for you.

My name is Carolyn Hansen, and my goal is to show you how to automate your weight loss by mastering your metabolism in as little as 30 days. I have been doing it for years, and you can do it too. Come find out how.

Metabolic Fitness Is Needed To Lose Weight

January 11th, 2010  |  Published in Women's Health

If you want to take off and keep off unwanted pounds of excess body fat, a healthy metabolism (your body’s engine) is your best fat-burning friend. Unless you are one of those rare people blessed by the fast-metabolism gods, you would probably like to burn more fuel (calories) than you do now both while at work and at rest.

Often surrounded in mystery your metabolism is affected a complex interaction of your eating and exercise habits and a few genetic factors thrown in as well. It is worth taking the time to understand it though, because with a well conditioned metabolism you can bolster your fat-burning efforts in significant ways. And even the most valiant efforts at weight loss will be hindered by a sluggish metabolism.

The easiest way to increase the rate your body burns fuel is to make sure you have great ‘metabolic fitness’. This refers to the body’s response to correct exercise. In terms of calories you either ‘burn’ them up for energy or you ‘store’ them as body fat.

For the last forty years exercise research focused on what happened during the exercise session and ignored the after effects. Now we know for sure what goes on during exercise directly impacts whether the body burns or stores fuel. In fact, the after effects of exercise are the most important aspect of determining metabolic ‘fitness’.

When it comes to losing weight, calories are important, but your hormones determine where, when and how those calories are used. More long, slow, exercise is not the answer and neither is restrictive dieting as both works against the metabolism in the long run. When food is reduced below a certain point (more than a few hundred calories) the body responds as if it was starving, and it will hold on to its fat stores for as long as possible.

Look to getting your body composition in the right ratios (muscle tissue/body fat ratio) by improving your ‘metabolic fitness’ if weight loss is your goal. The only exercise that will raise the metabolic rate and make your body work for you not against you is a proper program made up mostly of strength training exercise. Keep your old fashioned walking, jogging or cycling as part of your active lifestyle but never replace proper exercise with recreational activities.

Your strength training program done at the correct level of intensity will ensure your fat burning machinery (your metabolism) is boosted so it can set an army of fat gobbling muscle cells to work every minute of the day and night reducing your body fat level.

On the other hand your recreational activities will only burn fuel while you are doing them and your metabolism is not boosted to any extent to help you burn body fat.

This is the difference between the old ways of burning fat and the new better ways. The entire fat loss solution is in the muscle cells. When they are conditioned and toned they will work hard for you to keep you lean and trim something that long, slow, endurance type activities will never ever do. Get yourself started on your strength training program and enjoy the faster and more lasting fat loss results.

My name is Carolyn Hansen, and my goal is to show you how to burn fat – without starving yourself – by combining strength training with the right foods that increase metabolism, decrease food cravings, and keep you looking trim. Come find out how it is done.

Mental And Emotional Fitness Needs Exercise Too

January 11th, 2010  |  Published in Women's Health

Often when we heard the word ‘fitness’ we tend to think of just the physical aspects of it but a person’s overall health status is not just linked to the physical fitness of our bodies. It is also linked to our mental and emotional health and fitness as well. These three are all equally important and proper exercise can improve and sustain all three areas.

Mental and emotional health is just as important as the highest degree of physical fitness one can achieve as one without the other is a bit like a stool with only three legs. It will tip over. Many people are plagued by negative emotions which can hold them back from achieving their full potential in life.

Proper exercise can act as a counterweight and dissipate those negative emotions before they can become life altering. When the human body performs vigorous activity natural chemicals are released that regulate the emotions and create positive feelings about oneself and our lot in life. This can help you get back in touch with your inner self.

We all know that exercise is great for strengthening our muscles and helping manage our body weight but many people do not think about how it helps our brain work better. From managing stress to processing emotions, exercise oils the wheels that turn in our heads when we think, feel and do.

Whenever we get our heart rate up with some muscle building and maintaining exercise like strength training oxygen rich blood gets pumped through our system to benefit all of the body’s cells, tissues and organs including the brain. This gives the brain a boost in power and generates a domino effect stimulating brain wave activity which provides energy to the rest of the body. If you are tired and fatigued an exercise session can wake up your brain and rejuvenate it again.

An exercise session also decreases stress. Vigorous movement helps release stress hormones that have built up in your body that can threaten to overflow. When you discover how physical activity will allow stress buildup to escape you will have the perfect way to manage it. Use its calming affect to help you reduce stress levels.

Exercise can eliminate the ‘stinkin thinkin’ that produces depression. A session will chase any negative thoughts away and banish them forever. Without exercise these thoughts can build up and ruin a life. Pills won’t fix things, but exercise will. Think of it like house cleaning – useless and bad thoughts are simply eliminated.

With your strength training program you will find you are more creative. Exercise sparks creativity and gets the creative juices flowing and within minutes you can encounter a range of new thoughts or ideas that await further exploration.

Whatever your mental state at the time you start exercising, your session will help you feel so much better which will make you a happier more fulfilled person. It is up to each of us to give this gift to ourselves. Just 2-3 sessions each week will keep you calm and centered and you will be more productive and less stressed.
