If you have problems with immunity, is more likely to have frequent bouts of colds, flu and minor infections. Antibiotics are drugs indeed great, but recklessness in their use is not recommended.

It is a wrong notion that antibiotics can treat and cure all viral and bacterial infections. Antibiotics have no effect on viruses and unnecessary administration may actually be counterproductive. You can make your body immune to the drug and bring down immunity. A natural antibiotic alternative that can help prevent further damage that drugs can potentially cause and relieve symptoms also.

The low immunity is primary or acquired. The primary conditions are mainly due to a genetic predisposition. The low immunity acquired conditions are greatly affected by dietary habits, lifestyle and abuse of medication for minor ailments like the common cold and so on.

The immune system is your body’s first line of defense against foreign invaders: bacteria, pathogens, viruses, parasites or anything that can potentially cause disease. The spleen, thymus, lymph system and tonsils are all part of this extensive network of organs, tissues and cells including the white blood cells that help in curing yourself. The herbs for the immune system and natural remedies should be part of their daily routine to build this complex system. There is scientific evidence that a natural diet, herbal antibiotics and an active lifestyle, enhance immune system health and help prevent diseases like common cold or simple life-threatening diseases like cancer.

* Vitamin A, C and E are the most essential to maintain immune system health. A daily handful of almonds will provide sufficient amounts of vitamin E, oranges and other citrus are a natural source of vitamin C.

* Garlic is perhaps the oldest cultivated plant in the world and its history as an effective herbal antibiotic and booster for the immune system dates from the days when the pyramids were built. It is the natural builder of white blood cells, one of the most important components of the immune system.

* The carrots and other vegetables red, orange and dark green contain carotenoids, which are converted into vitamin A by the liver. These are extremely helpful for the thymus gland. The thymus gland is an endocrine organ at the base of the neck that produces lymphocytes. It plays an important role in producing immunity and preventing atrophies due to advanced age

* Zinc is another element that is essential for immunity. The element is followed by iron concentration in the body. Deficiency may affect the immune system in more ways than one. It acts as a catalyst in the immune responses to pathogens and ensures that the white blood cells perform their functions. Peanuts, peanut butter and dark meat of chicken, beef and lamb are excellent sources of zinc.

* Six ounces of plain yogurt and fresh daily, maintain healthy intestinal flora for proper digestion. Yogurt bacteria convert the lactose in milk into lactic acid, which is perfect for maximizing absorption and prevent vaginal infections and bladder.

Old And New Natural Ways To Protect Your Family From Colds

December 18th, 2009  |  Published in Sexual Health

p>If you are a parent to a baby or toddler, you are undoubtedly used to your little one having several colds each year. In fact, it may even seem like as soon as your child has finally gotten over a cold, another one mysteriously appears not far behind. While your first instinct might be to reach for the nearest over the counter cold remedy for children, many doctors are now advising against it.

Cause for Concern

There is growing apprehension among pediatricians about over the counter cold remedies for children, particularly those under the age of four. The reason for this concern is the multitude of potential side effects that babies and toddlers may experience if they are given these types of medications.

This situation is one of great concern for parents, as their choices are quite limited when it comes to trying to treat the colds that their kids typically get five or six times each year. The best thing you can do, of course, is help your kids to avoid getting sick in the first place.

Some parents, however, wonder if this is realistically possible. Keeping young children free of cold viruses can seem, at times, like an impossible task. The good news is that there are some positive steps you can take that can help you to at least keep the number of colds that your kids get each year down.

Keeping Colds at Bay

Fortunately, the things that you can do to help prevent the occurrence of colds are really quite practical. While these actions certainly will not guarantee that your children will never catch a cold or virus again, acting upon them can certainly ensure that your children are less susceptible to catching viruses.

  1. Make sure your kids get plenty of sleep each night. When your children are tired their immune systems can become sluggish, which may result in them catching a bug. Babies require up to 18 hours of sleep each day, toddlers and preschoolers need about 12 hours a day, and grade school kids should get about 10 hours a day.
  2. Make sure they wash their hands. Sure, this one may seem a little obvious, but it’s worth saying, anyway. Almost 80% of infectious diseases are spread through touch (including colds and flu), so parents, kids need to learn very early in life to wash their hands in warm, soapy water regularly. When hand washing isn’t practical, teach them to use hand sanitizers or antibacterial wipes. They work just as well!
  3. Keep your home clean, especially if a member of your family is currently sick with a cold or other type of virus. Try to clean items in your home a few times each day in an effort to keep other members of your family from getting sick. Refrigerators, television remotes, video game consoles, telephones, and light switches are some of the most commonly used items in our homes that are usually not thought about when people are cleaning. Avoid drinks with ice or very cool. Like a cold drinks or iced juices.

If your cold prevention efforts should fail, always talk to your pediatrician about some remedies that you can try that will help you to avoid using over the counter medications.
