Wii Fit Plus Review: A Great, Fun Way to Stay in Shape

December 9th, 2011  |  Published in Sexual Health

Two of the greatest challenges many people have when they try to get in shape is monotony and boredom.  The Wii Fit changes all that.  Wii Fit is getting people in great shape because the exercises are fun, diverse, and entertaining.

I recently saw my friend Larry who I had not seen in over a year.  The last time that I saw Larry he was looking in great shape and well below his 43 years.  In fact, he looked so good I inquired about what he was doing.

“Well,” he exclaimed, “I’ve enrolled in this new exercise class at the gym and it gets me in great shape.”  I like to get my workouts at the workout room in my house or outside in the sun so I do not belong to a gym.  But, after I last saw Larry, he almost had me convinced.  Whatever program he was on was certainly working.

That was then.

When I saw Larry last week, he was back to his former self if not a little heavier.  He lamented about his physique which had been so great the previous year.

“What happened with the program?” I asked him.

He replied, “It just got too routine and boring.  Plus, driving to the gym was taking too much time.”

Larry is proof that getting in shape sometimes is much easier than staying in shape.  Workouts become tedious, routine, boring, expensive, and take up a whole lot of time.  However, staying in shape is so important for vitality and longevity in your life.

This is where Wii Fit Plus comes in.

Wii Fit Plus adds variety to your routine.  There are several forms of exercises from which to choose:  warm ups, cardio, strength, yoga, and more.  One day you can work your respiratory system with a great cardio workout and the next you can build up your muscles with strength training.  Following that, you may wish to choose yoga or a variety of mini routines that you can setup to focus on certain areas.

I love the pre-set routines offered by Wii.  You can choose workout durations of 20, 30, or 40 minutes that are different everyday.  This is about the amount of time that it would take to get to the gym and back.  With the Wii Fit Plus, you are already done with your workout in that amount of time.

But probably the best feature is the automatic goal setting and progress tracking.  At the gym, you work with your trainer to create a plan.  Then, you often carry that piece of paper around with you and have to manually track your progress.  Not with this game though.  The Wii Fit Plus tracks your progress so that you can see where you have been and, most importantly, where you are going.

It is no small wonder that the Wii Fit Plus (make sure you get the Balance Board option as it adds many new balancing workout) is a regularly one of the top rated Wii games. It provides you an opportunity not only to get in great shape, but to stay in great shape.

Wii Fit Plus has been selected as one of the Best Christmas Gifts for 2009. It makes a great Christmas Gift for Her 2009 and for him as well. The author of this article, Richard Mas, is a retail specialist and senior editor at The Christmas Store Online.

Best Eye Exercises For You

December 8th, 2011  |  Published in Sexual Health

Do you take utmost care of your eyes? Maybe you aren’t because causing strain to your eyes and staring at something is also one of the worst things to do since it damages the eyes. Long stressful days demand some rest for your eyes so that the vision can be restored to its actual capabilities. Your vision can be damaged if you carry on straining your eyes everyday. So can you really improve your eyesight by natural methods? Most people think damaged eyes mean they need glasses or some laser treatment, but few think of the possibilities of using simple eye exercises to restore one’s eyesight.

Most people are aware that exercising is good for the body since it ensures you have a healthy body. Some people just neglect the eyes thinking that they don’t need to be exercised, but that’s the wrong mentality since eyesight can be restored by doing daily exercises to keep them fit as well and disease-free. Some exercises have been scientifically proven to be good for improving eyesight and also preventing eye problems, hence reducing dependence on spectacles.

One eye exercise you can practice to help improve your eyesight is called the ‘word exercise’. All it requires you to do is to look at a phrase of any text which isn’t shorter than four alphabets in length, and then concentrate on the full phrase in order to catch the most appropriate image that it produces in your brain. Once more and the word becomes blurred when you try to gaze and firmly focus on it.

It’s quite important you do eyesight improving exercises since they present the only natural method of achieving elasticity of the eye muscles and strengthen them. They also help diffuse the tension the eye muscles experience when you’re reading or working on the computer. On the overall basis, your exercises will be best for your eyes and you will be able to retain your natural ability for the eyes to focus on things at a short distance as well far away. Eye tension causing anxiety and sometimes headaches is reduced as well if you devote yourself to some natural eye exercises, hence preventing the ill effects of ageing eyes.

The Bates method’s something that’s recommended for eye exercises and according to it, the first one you can start with is ‘palming’. All you have to do is to cover your eyes with your palms keeping the eyes closed and gently massaging each eyeball slowly. You’ll have keep moving your eyes up and down and from right to left both anticlockwise and clockwise. Another exercise is where you move a pencil or your finger from your nose tip to a distance of about an arm’s length slowly and follow this movement with your eyes. Then close your eyes and keep it squeezed as tightly as you can and you’ll feel the eye muscles contracting. Repeat ten times for each exercise. Relax your eyes after the exercises by blinking continuously for a while.

5 Exercise Tools to bring when Traveling

November 9th, 2011  |  Published in Sexual Health

Anyone serious about fitness must dread traveling for business or pleasure.  While many hotels have gyms; you never know if their gym hours will match your availability or if the equipment is what you want.  While you always need to travel light, there are five tools that everyone can fit into their luggage that can help you get all the exercise needed to stay fit while on the go.

Pack ankle and wrist weights.  These work for any exercise you normally use a free weight or dumbbell form, but have the added benefit of packing quickly and easily.  I recommend wearing your weights when running around airports to double up your travel time making connections or waiting for boarding.  Put them on when doing squats, sit-ups and push-ups for added weight and resistance.  They can also help turn a morning jog from a cardio calorie-burn into a lean muscle building activity.

Speaking of morning jogs; the biggest mistake most people make when traveling is not bringing along athletic shoes or sneakers.  Even if you aren’t a runner, pack a pair of tennis shoes and spend some time wearing them.  Walk the hotel corridors or go up and down the stairs, enjoy a morning stroll along Main Street or in a nearby park.  Having good athletic shoes will allow you to take these walks with less chance of injury and stress on your feet, making the exercise more enjoyable and less painful.

Another great tool to bring with you is a tennis ball or racquet ball.  No, the point isn’t to play tennis or racquetball: although, if the hotel has courts those CAN be great ways to get a workout in.  Instead, grip the ball in one hand and squeeze as hard as you can to provide your forearms and hands with a good strength building exercise.  A racquet ball packs light and takes up little space, making it an ideal choice for an exercise like this.

Resistance bands also pack light and are helpful when doing a variety of exercises.  A resistance band and related exercises provide basic arm and strength training.  There are many exercises available with resistance bands, but one great exercise is to use resistance bands while performing squats.  Squats alone are great lower body strength, but by stepping on the resistance band shoulder length apart and holding them at chest level, you will expand the benefits of the squat to your upper body as well.  Another great resistance band exercise is to ones are using resistance bands during squats and

Finally, one tool that almost everyone forgets is the proper nutrition your body needs to sustain exercise and strength training.  A lightweight choice is to bring whey protein supplements.  Most whey protein comes in a powdered form which you add to water to make a tasty and nutritious whey protein shake.  Since your hotel or motel will provide the water, all you are packing is the lightweight powder.  Whey protein provides your muscles with the right sort of building blocks to both develop and maintain lean muscle.

Lower abdominal exercises for women are an important part of women’s health

September 26th, 2010  |  Published in Women's Health

Lower abdominal exercises for women are an important part of women’s health. While everyone talks about how wonderful it would have a belly, is not the only reason to make sure you work out this part of your body. Having strong abdominal muscles can also improve your health in other ways – for example, giving you better posture and reducing back strain. Most people do some abdominal exercises – however, lower abs are often overlooked “natural teeth whitening“.

Using one or two effective types of lower abdominal exercises for women can be sure that this important muscle group is also working effectively. Several of the exercises may require more equipment than you have easy access – however, most lowerabdominal exercises are easy to make at home and does not require much equipment extra.

Effective lower abdominal exercises for beginners

Lying leg raises – Lie on a flat bench. Raise your arms above your head and your hands hold the edges of the sidewalk or (if any) the grip behind the head. With your legs slightly bent at the knees, raise them all the way to the vertical position. Pause for a second and then slowly lower. Try not to touch the ground at the bottom. This control voltage is maintained in the abdominal muscles throughout the exercise and therefore increase the intensity. Repeat for your designated number of repetitions and sets “natural teeth whitening“.

Reverse Crunch – Lie on your back on an exercise bench, raise your arms and firmly grasp the edge of the bench above or beside your head. With knees bent (and locked in this position), his contract abdominals and lift your hips to bring your knees toward your chest – Hold for three seconds and lower your hips back to the bench. Repeat for your designated number of repetitions and sets.
Leg lifts are advanced exercises to Lower Abs

First, the hanging leg raise is one of the most effective types of abs exercises. For this year, however, you’ll need a lat pull-rod to hang up. This bar will have to be high enough that it can hang with arms fully extended (hands shoulder width apart) for long enough to do the exercise – without the feet touching the ground. Then use yourabdominal muscles (you have to concentrate) to move your legs up until you are sitting in the air.

Important notes for all abdominal exercises

• Do not over train your abs. Remember that success is always the result of many efforts. Never train abs if they are still very sore from a previous workout. Slight pain is well.

• Keep your abs pulled in tight through each rep to maximize the benefit of each repetition ‘types of acne‘.

• Keep the movement range of 30-45 degrees from the floor or bench (horizontal position). This helps minimize the area of hip-flexor and ensures that the ABS achieve complete workout.

• Keep the spine, neck, head and shoulder alignment to avoid kinking.

• When doing squats and crunches, or any other exercise that requires your hands behind your head, interlock your fingers ever since this causes them to pull the head and put your spine out of alignment – which can cause tensions to spine.

Male Abs can be achieved by any woman, and help you live a fuller life. With proper training and proper, is that ABS is very possible.

Women?s Health: Routines, Exercises, & Nutrition That Are Most Effective For Women

Women’s Health: Routines, Exercises, & Nutrition That Are Most Effective For Women

Some women are genetically predisposed to stay thin and look good without much effort.  Others have to work hard to keep their waistlines down and their skin healthy and glowing.  Regardless of who you are, however, to achieve optimal health and fitness, you need to exercise regularly and pay attention to nutrition.

What are the best fitness routines for women?  What foods are best suited to a woman’s health needs?  Are women’s needs different than men’s?

For a female who is not limited by health issues, weekly physical activities should include flexibility exercises, strength training, and cardiovascular workouts.  This is true, regardless of exercise experience and level of fitness.  A woman’s daily diet should focus on good nutrition as well as weight management.  By following a regular fitness regimen and healthy diet plan, she can look and feel her very best at any age.

(If you haven’t been particularly active for quite some time, you should certainly consult with your healthcare professional before beginning any exercise program.  Once you have been given the “go ahead,” begin your exercises at an easy pace and gradually increase the intensity.)

Flexibility Exercises

According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, “an effective fitness program is more than aerobic training and strength building.  To really reap the benefits of exercise, you need to add flexibility training to the mix.”

To maintain a youthful, limber body that moves with fluidity and ease, flexibility exercises (stretching) should be performed several times each week.  Too often, however, stretching exercises are disregarded and viewed as unimportant.

Improving your flexibility not only helps you to move around easier, it leads to better posture and reduces muscle tension and strain.  Stretching the body before and after each workout can lower the risk of muscle injury.

Prior to stretching, prepare the muscles by doing a quick warm-up.  As you perform flexibility exercises, be sure not to bounce or force a stretch to the point of pain.  Breathe deeply into the stretch and relax, holding each stretch for at least 10 seconds.

Yoga and pilates exercises are examples of great ways to stretch and improve flexibility

Strength Training

Just because you’re female doesn’t mean you should shy away from using weights or engaging in other types of resistance workouts.  You don’t even need to be a body builder!  In fact, you don’t even have to use weights to perform strength-training exercises!

Strength-training exercises are essential to muscle growth, improving strength and tone, and developing muscle endurance.  For best results, these types of exercises should be performed at least twice per week.  It is a good idea to either consult a personal trainer or watch a strength-training video to learn the proper techniques for these exercises.  If done improperly, muscle strain or injury could result.

Examples of strength-training exercises include pushups, pull-ups, bicep curls, and bench presses.  Even carrying a full laundry basket around the house counts as a strength-training exercise!  (You may also substitute other household items, such as canned goods, for free weights.)

Cardio Workouts

Routine cardio or aerobic workouts are essential to keep your heart strong and your metabolism working efficiently.  According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a minimum of 30 minutes of at least moderate intensity cardio exercise most days of the week is a key activity that contributes to the overall health of adults of any age.

The idea behind an aerobic workout is to noticeably raise the heart rate during physical activity.  Exercise of moderate intensity causes the heart to beat faster than normal without making the individual breathe too hard or too fast.  Exercise of vigorous intensity substantially raises the heart rate as well as causes fast, heavy breathing.

Examples of vigorous cardio exercise include swimming laps, jogging or running, and jumping rope.

Nutrition for Women

One of the biggest problems Americans face today is obesity.  A huge contributor to obesity is our unhealthy style of eating.  Many people tend to eat portions that are way out of line.  Those portions often consist of foods that are high in calories, fat, and cholesterol.  These foods not only lead to weight gain, they also increase one’s risk for health problems such as heart disease and diabetes.

As a woman, you go through many changes during your lifetime.  At each stage of life, you have special dietary needs.  By eating a healthy diet, you can ensure that those needs are met.  This is one of the best ways to show that you care about yourself.

Lard is an example of a saturated (bad) fat.

Good fats are necessary to aid the body in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K).  Without essential fatty acids in your diet, your skin would become dry, and your hair would become brittle.

Foods rich in calcium are a must in a woman’s diet.  During childhood and adolescence, calcium helps build strong bones and teeth.  Calcium has been shown to reduce PMS symptoms; it promotes healthy pregnancies; and, as a woman ages, calcium helps in the prevention of osteoporosis.  Because the body absorbs calcium slowly, the best sources of calcium are naturally occurring rather than in supplement form.  Cheese, milk, and yogurt are good sources of calcium.

Eating on the Run

Busy women often find it difficult to stick with a healthy diet.  Fast food tends to be a quick answer to eating on the run.  However, there are solutions to eating healthy on those hectic days.

The best course of action might be to plan ahead of time and prepare healthy snacks and meals that can be taken with you.  This will ensure that you know exactly what you are putting into your body.  If you find that you must eat out, select from the healthiest choices on the menu.  Remember, too, that you do not have to clean your plate when the portions are Texas size!  Eat slowly and quit when you begin to feel full.  Consistent overeating can and does lead to obesity!

For Optimal Health

To be healthy at any age, a woman must be aware of what she consumes and the amount of physical activity she gets on a daily basis.  Her diet should consist mainly of moderate portions of good, nutritious foods.  Physical activity should become routine and should include flexibility exercises, strength-training workouts, and aerobic activities.

An active lifestyle combined with good nutrition can lead to a longer, healthier, and happier life.

Better Sex: Body And Mind Tips

June 19th, 2010  |  Published in Sexual Health

The benefits of better physical conditioning are presented daily in the media. The social norms for body image are influenced everyday by what we read and view, either on T.V. or the internet. Yes, primary motivators to better conditioning are improved health, decreased healthcare costs, increased energy, and heightened self image. Perhaps the number one reason to get in better shape is found in the bedroom.

Here then are mind and body tips that can lead to better sex:

Eat Differently

Notice this does not say “loose weight” or “go on a low carb diet”. It says Eat Differently. This means two things. One is portion control and two is meal frequency.

Portion Control

Simply put most of us eat too much. That, in part, is a function of how much we are served either at home or while eating out. Many of us grew up with parental instructions to be members of the “clean plate club”. What we did not know was that eating everything on our plates, given the portions that we are served, is making us fat! Eating to a holiday meal coma state (think Thanksgiving) is not healthy and will put on weight. Conversely eating until you are satisfied and then putting the fork down will yield dramatically different results. It’s not about banishing all the food you enjoy from your diet. It is about learning to moderate the amount of food you eat. This leads to the next point.

Meal Frequency

So if you are eating less at these meals won’t you get hungry? Yes you will. This means you will need to eat. Experts in diet and nutrition suggest eating 5-6 times per day. The pattern would be:

Breakfast

Mid-morning snack

Lunch

Mid-afternoon snack

Dinner

Post dinner snack/dessert

When combined with the Portion Control rule you will train your body to eat less at one sitting, your body will expect smaller increments of food more frequently, and the end result will be weight loss. This statement assumes that your 5-6 meals are not comprised of cheeseburgers, french fries, and chocolate shakes! Eating more fruits and vegetables and following a low-fat diet is a great start. The Eat Differently suggestion still incorporates sound dietary principles such as limiting the amount of fat, carbs, sugar, salt, etc.

What is the net effect on sex? Simple really. Eat better, loose weight. Less weight stimulates the sex hormones.

Workout For The Pelvic Region

Activity that sends increased flow blood to the large muscle groups gives the genitals better circulation. This means working the thighs, buttocks, and pelvis. The exercises that can accomplish this are as simple as a brisk walk (20 minutes per week), yoga, cycling, Pilates, and jogging. The result of this increased circulation is better arousal, and better orgasmic function. As always you should consult you doctor before engaging in any exercise regimen. The primary byproduct of this exercise will be a return of sexual desire.

Reduce Stress

One of the best ways to kill sex is being over stressed. How can you perform when the demands of the job and family are creating havoc on the brain? Three great stress reducers:

Breathing: yes breathing. Deep, relaxing, purposeful breathing. It oxygenates the blood and wakes up the brain.

Exercise: there’s that word again. Singularly one of the best stress reducers there is.

Music: when dealing with stress, the right music can actually lower your blood pressure, relax your body and calm your mind.

Stop Buying What The Media Is Selling

Paris, Angelina, Nichole. What do they weigh? How much should they weigh? What do they eat? These are the headlines of the mass media everyday. They have the potential to pollute the mind into believing that the body image of the “stars” should be our body image. True sexuality is found when you and your partner allow yourselves to abandon the stereotypes. If either partner is worrying about a bulging this or a sagging that how can sexual intensity be realized? Condition your mind to accept your body as it is. Body image can be more destructive to sex than many other factors.

While not a complete list of suggestions to improve your sex life, the preceding tips should improve your health, reduce your stress, and in turn make your sex life more fulfilling.
