How Do I Get My Body Back?
May 12th, 2012 | Published in Sexual Health
Well, you have shared your body with another human being for the last nine months and now that it is yours again you want to be able to recognize it. Getting fit after having that beautiful baby is definitely a process. You must be patient but also determined. A lot of times you will hear it said 9 months on and 9 months off but I tend to disagree. Sometimes women see themselves shrink every time they nurse their little one and others hit a wall and watch the weight start to go back up because they are “starving” while they are nursing. Wherever you fit in exercise and eating right is going to be a huge key!
Your hormones have just been on a roller coaster for the last 10 months, I am including the six weeks you should really give your body to recover after the delivery, and what better way to get a little “you” time and not feel crazy by working out? Make sure to always talk with your doctor about how your body is recovering. Your six week check-up is a great time to ask what your body is ready for. Time to release some endorphins and get back into those jeans all at the same time.
You are now on a journey to be the best mom to this new little baby and how can you do that without the energy? Even though it may feel like a daunting and exhausting task, making time for you is always beneficial. A lot of times as a mom you can feel like “you” are forgotten. By working out and eating right you will be a happier and healthier individual which will in turn make you a beautiful wife, a beautiful mom and a beautiful you. You need to feel like yourself again and be able to get back doing the things that you love and pass those passions on to your kids.
You may find it harder to get back into a routine with now needing to find someone to watch your little one. You make want to consider a home work out. You can fit in a work out while your little chubby one just watches you and laughs, which mine tends to do. Always listen to your body. Your ligaments may still feel loose and you want to be careful. Don’t over push yourself. Also, remember to drink lots of fluids and to warm up properly. Eat nutritiously but don’t forget that if you are nursing and you may need some extra calories. Whatever you can do is great!
You may think why try if I am just going to get pregnant again in a couple of years? Don’t let yourself get caught in that trap. Whatever you can do now will make you feel better and healthier and not let your body just rack up even more weight after the next pregnancy. It can be discouraging but also very encouraging when you see what a gift your body is and that with some motivation and hard work you can look great before, during and after pregnancy no matter how many times you hit that cycle. Good luck, you can do it!
