Anyone interested in healing is encouraged to take an aromatherapy massage course. You do need to keep in mind how much money and time you are willing to invest in such a course. Because of the high interest in aromatherapy and alternative healing, you may be better off finding a weekend workshop or an afternoon seminar rather than enrolling for a semester’s aromatherapy massage course at the local college or university.

What are Your Goals?

Many people find that they are incredibly interested in aromatherapy and so have an underlying desire to learn all they can about it. Some people want to learn about it because they are already in the medical profession. Still others want to start their own business. There are many reasons that people have when they decide to take an aromatherapy massage course.

But there are different levels and intensity of aromatherapy massage courses. If you just want to impress a girl on a hot date coming up, then you don’t need to invest the time and money for a few weeks of intensive training. Also, if you are continuing education in your chosen medical field, you may need to get a certification to fulfill your medical license requirements. Stick to your goals and you will find the aromatherapy massage course for your needs.

What about Online Classes?

Online aromatherapy massage courses are not recommended, due to the hands-on nature of learning a skill like massage. You need to practice on bodies. No amount of text work or even using an instruction DVD can help you deal with the gritty reality of half naked flesh in front of you. Although you can learn about aromatherapy online, it’s the massage part that needs to be learned in person.

What Do You Learn?

You learn a wide variety of things when taking an aromatherapy massage course. You’ll learn about the different uses for aromatherapy oils, and about holistic aromatherapy massage, which works to help the whole person (body and emotions). You learn some etiquette (like carefully taking care of a client’s clothes) and learn to deal with issues that may come up over the course of massaging a half-naked person.

You can find aromatherapy massage courses or workshops in your local community college, occult or New Age bookstore, yoga center or YMCA. You should also check out the classifieds in your local papers for announcements of any classes open to the general public.

Self Healing Massage Techniques For Instant Stress Relief!

As a massage therapist I can say without doubt that rubbing of the neck gives very fast relief from pain and stress. The neck is the junction between the brain and body. Stress seems to affect the muscles of this area more than any other place. Ever notice how tight your neck gets especially when sitting, standing, or if you’ve been stressed? When you use the healing power of your own touch you reverse the downward cycle of pain – first physically, then mentally. All things are connected – mental, physical, spiritual and emotional. They all play off each other.

First put on some nice, soothing music. Then pour a tablespoon full of coconut oil or safflower oil (I always prefer natural lubricants vs. synthetic, petroleum based creams) into a bowl and find a relaxing place to sit or lay. If you want you may add essential oils like lavender, rosemary, or lemongrass. Another great option to oil would be a product from the coop called Arnica salve. Arnica is a muscle relaxing herb used for external purposes only. Internally, I use mind calming, nerve melting herbs like skullcap, valerian or hops that really help with stress. (I prefer natural remedies over artificial medicines). Dip your fingers into the oil and rub some of it on your neck. Work it in until you’ve got the perfect “slide” and consistency. Feel is a big key here. Find the tight bands of muscle in the front, sides and back of the neck. Rub the bands lengthwise, circularly and crosswise. Be careful not to pinch off the carotid artery which is located just to the right of the Adams apple in that “groove”. Cup your hand on the back of the neck and squeeze, pull, and rub. While you’re rubbing, roll the head around, stretching and working the muscles it at the same time. Be careful but thorough. Breathe! The breath is the spirit of life. Think positive thoughts and relax. Rub your neck and shoulder muscles for at least 15 minutes.

Now rub your ears, hands and feet. These are the reflex hot spots on the body. Rub these areas and feel for sore points. Also feel for tight bands and knots. These are indicators of places that need attention. It’s that simple. Rubbing the ears is called auricular acupressure. Rubbing the hands and feet is called reflexology. You can stimulate your ears, hands and feet everyday on your own! Just rub them! When you do your own healing, you take the bull by the horns and create your own good health!

Using music as a tool to extend the benefits of massage and energy work is something that is often underutilized by massage therapists and energy workers but can be a key component to a prolonged healing experience.  The use of sound as a healing force dates back thousands of years. Research has shown the profound effect of music on reducing stress, lowering blood pressure, creating deep relaxation and inducing peaceful sleep.  In other words, when music speaks to us, the body listens.  Don Campbell’s’ book, The Mozart Effect, Tapping the Power of Music to Heal the Body, Strengthen the Mind, and Unlock the Creative Spirit, shows how modern science has begun to confirm this ancient wisdom, finding evidence that listening to certain types of music can improve the quality of life in almost every aspect.

When using music as a tool to extend the benefits of massage and energy work, be sure to choose long, slow, melodic pieces without words. Music that invites your client to float away will help create a more relaxed body so the massage or session can go deeper with less effort.

This same music can be used in between sessions, acting as a stimulus to help the body remember the healing experienced during the previous massages and energy sessions. According to Ted Andrews in his book, Sacred Sounds, Magic & Healing Through Words & Music, “The more we are exposed to beneficial sounds, the greater and more permanent the effect they have upon our own individual energies.”

Hearing the same music can re-create the essence of the massage or energy session; the mood, the feeling and the reflective place within.

By offering your clients a tool that is inexpensive, portable, and an effective way to prolong the effects of the massage or energy session, you have empowered them to take an active role in their own care.

As you integrate this tool into your work, you will have happier, healthier clients and you will also create a new income stream for your business by having the music for sale in your office.

A Seated Chair Massage – Are They Any Good?

The addition of a therapeutic automated massage chair in the waiting area at a local pharmacy attracted many curious clients. Once they found themselves having to wait for their prescriptions many chose to try the chair out. While waiting for my prescription I watched as a gentleman walked over to take a look at it. He looked at the control panel and felt the chair. He then sat down in it cautiously and turned it on. I saw his eyes get wide with surprise as it started and I watched as he relaxed into the chair and closed his eyes, obviously enjoying it. As soon as he reluctantly claimed his prescription and walked off I quickly got up and took his place anxious to try it myself.

I set the controls for a full back massage and sat back and closed my eyes. My back muscles are always achy and sore and the massage chair was a rare and wonderful treat. I couldn’t imagine before testing the chair that a seated chair massage could provide much relief but I was very wrong. It felt as if there were large round beads of some sort slowly rolling up and down the back of the chair under the upholstery and rolling over my stiff back muscles. Within minutes I had completely sunk into the massage chair and was extremely relaxed. I was highly impressed and felt reluctant to even get up. I asked the pharmacist about it and he told me it was a demo model they wanted to try out. Since people sometimes had to wait for their prescriptions to be filled they decided to put it there to see what the general opinion was of anyone that tried it. The majority of those that had tried it did just as I did and asked the pharmacist about it. Having a seated chair massage was so rewarding for me that I have decided to invest in one.

The air is getting crisp and snowflakes are beginning to fall.  It’s the time of year that skiers, snowboarders and other winter enthusiasts have been waiting for.  However, when heading outdoors, remember that you are asking your body to do things that it hasn’t done in many months.  It is not uncommon for those who partake in winter activities to experience soreness and increased vulnerability for injuries.  Incorporating massage into your winter wellness regimen will boost your muscle performance and help keep you healthy and injury-free.

Racing down the slopes on skis or performing acrobatics with a snowboard is an exhilarating experience.  It also requires your muscles to stretch and work in ways that your body has been unaccustomed to during the warmer months.  The heightened workload put on muscles can cause a burning sensation and soreness that lasts long after the event.  It is also common to experience a delayed onset of pain and tenderness, which can disrupt normal activities.  Injuries from twisting or falling can also cause soreness, as well as having more serious ramifications.  A therapeutic massage can gently stretch muscles and relieve pain and tenderness.

Massage increases circulation, which helps to carry nutrients to muscles and tissues while expelling lactic acid.  Massage also promotes the removal of toxins throughout the body by encouraging lymph drainage.  Massage gently stretches the muscles, improving range of motion and flexibility, which is an important component to injury prevention.  If you do experience an injury, massage will reduce the pain and swelling, allowing your body to heal itself faster.

Colorado Massage Education – Massage Education And Practice Regulations In Colorado

If you are planning to get an education in Colorado massage, it is very important that you understand all the state regulations. For some time, there were no state regulations on massage therapy, but within the past couple of years, more and more states are beginning to regulate this profession. The Massage Therapy Practice Act, which was passed in Colorado, specifically defines what massage therapy is considered by law. Of course, not only does the law give a definition of what massage is all about, but it also sets up some requirements for those who are going to be legally practicing Colorado massage. Approved Program

In order to practice Colorado massage, one of the things you’ll need to do is go through an approved program. You should get a diploma or degree from the program and it is required that the program totals to 500 or more hours of clinical work and course work. Pass an Examination

Another thing you’ll need to do in order to practice massage in Colorado is to make sure you pass one of the approved examinations. These examinations can include the National Certification Examination, The Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination, or another examination that has been approved. If you cannot pass these exams, then you will not be able to practice massage therapy within the state legally.

Criminal History Check

In order to register with the state in massage therapy, you will also need to go through a criminal history background check. The state wants to know that you have a clean background before they allow you to go out and practice massage therapy. This is a very hands-on type of practice, so the state feels that this is necessary before you can be registered.

If you want to practice Colorado massage therapy, you will need to meet all of these requirements by law. The law actually says that you can’t call yourself a massage practitioner, a registered massage therapist, a masseuse, a massage therapist, or an RMT or MT unless you have registered with the state. If this is the profession you want to get involved in, then it is very important that you take a good look at these Colorado requirements to ensure that you meet them and then work to get your state registration so you can legally practice.
